My First Two Weeks (Gina's Story)

Day 1: The ride to my new home was scary. My new Mommy was excited to have me and kept talking to me the whole time but I was still very scared. When we got to our new house, I decided that I didn't want to stay there. It was a decision that I would come to regret later. So I tugged, and the collar that my first Mommy had put on me came open. My new Mommy looked horrified and she tried to grab me, but I ran (and fast). It was fun at first, so I played with her by playing "hide and seek" and "you can't catch me!". Pretty soon, I had run so far that I couldn't see my new Mommy, but I was enjoying my freedom so much that I just kept running. Three hours later, I saw Mommy still looking for me and I dashed into a cornfield. Tonight it was a bit cold, so I sneaked into a factory and found a warm corner to sleep in.

Day 2: Today I saw Mommy walking with my sister down the road. She was putting papers into boxes in front of all the houses and was calling my name. I played "peek a boo" with her a little and then hid. I didn't want her to be mad at me for running away.

Days 3-9: For the next few days, several people tried to give me treats and called my name, but I ran from all of them. I started to get hungry and cold. One night there was ice on the ground and I felt like I couldn't get warm. So, I followed the smell of my sister back to my Mommy's house. She had left her back door open and put a bone in there. I gobbled up that bone real quick and then I scratched on her garage door. A light went on in her garage and I got scared. I almost ran away again but Daddy was blocking the door that I came in. When Mommy opened her garage door, I went right inside the house and rubbed up against her. She felt warm and seemed nice. Why did I run away? She held me like a baby and her eyes looked sad as she petted my rumbling belly. I was wasting away to nothing! She must have heard my belly because she took me into a warm room where all my toys were, where she gave me some milk, food with an egg on it, and all the loving I could have wanted. Mommy said I was away for 9 days. No wonder she looked so sad! She let me sleep with her tonight. It was the warmest night and happiest night I have had in a long time!

Days 10-13: Mommy fed me yummy food! She also gave me toys to play with and lots of hugs and kisses. She also gave me a dirty look and shook her finger when I went poopy in the house. I was trying to learn how to let her know that I need to go but I don't think we understand eachother fully yet. I went potty everywhere. She looked very unhappy when I went on her wood floor. I'm glad she doesn't stay mad for long. I like cuddling with her.

Day 14: Today I didn't go potty inside the house except when Mommy put me in my home to sleep. She gave me a treat and gave me kisses every time I went potty outside. I like this! I'm going to try to go potty outside every time so maybe she'll give me a treat every time!

My First Two Weeks (Bella's Story)

Day 1: The ride to my new Mommy's place was a little scary but I slept through most of it. My sister would not stop moving and stepped on me from time to time during the ride. Mommy kept talking to us. When we got to her house, she started to get us out of her car. My sister tugged and broke free. She ran and ran and ran. Because of this, Mommy put me in her house with Daddy and left me for several hours. This made me scared because I didn't know what was going on and I thought I was in trouble. I hid the whole time. When Mommy came back home, my sister wasn't with her and Mommy looked very sad and kept crying. I missed my sister so I was crying too. She let me sleep in her bed though and that made me feel safer.

Day 2: Mommy took me out for a walk this day. She was putting papers in all of the people's boxes. All of those papers had my sister's pictures on them. We walked and walked and walked for a LONG time! At one point we saw my sister but she ran away again. We went home sad. Mommy cried a lot again today so I cuddled with her. I didn't much like Daddy. His voice scares me because it is so low.

Days 3-9: Mommy took me out every day to look for my sister. We met lots of new people when we went for our walks. Mommy took me twice to the pet store and I liked that. Everything smelled so good! People kept touching me and talking to me sweetly. I liked it but I was scared so I hid next to Mommy. One night, it was cold when Mommy took me to go potty. She made me stay out a little bit longer than usual and was calling my sister the whole time. Then when we went inside, she put a bone down on the ground but wouldn't let me eat it. I didn't understand. Later that night, Mommy ran to the door. When she opened it, my sister came in. I was so happy! Mommy fed us special food with egg on our food and milk. It was yummy. As we laid on our bed with Mommy, my tail wagged because I was so very happy. Mommy got excited. It was the only time I have wagged my tail before or after that. We both got to sleep with Mommy tonight.

Days 10-13: Mommy gave us a bath today. She said we were smelly and stunk like outside--probably because my sister was gone from home for so long. My sister is NOISY! Whenever Mommy has to get something done and can't keep an eye on us, she puts us in our home together. Gina cries and cries and cries. I think she is spoiled. Mommy gives me treats every time I go potty outside. She says I'm so pretty too. I like to cuddle with her. I'm still scared of Daddy....and EVERYONE else.

Day 14: My sister brought me toys today. I was laying on my heating pad on the sofa when she brought me all of the toys from our room. It was nice. She doesn't know that I don't like to play much. I'd rather just lay down and rest all of the time. Mommy calls me a lazy girl but she doesn't seem upset about it. She brushed our teeth today. Icky! But she also gave us pig ears. Those are so YUMMY!!
